New remedies in treating adolescent acne are on the way

Acne affects more than 80 per cent of teenagers across the globe and can be attributed to the specific bacteria found in adolescent acne that actively triggers outbreaks.

The good news for those teenagers who suffer from acne — there is new treatment is on the way.

A 2022 scientific report published in the Nature Portfolio journal found that new microbial treatments could improve treatment success amongst those with acne in their adolescent years.

It is hoped that these treatments may reduce adolescent acne by targeting the key bacteria that trigger acne outbreaks, balancing the skin and decreasing the inflammatory lesions acne patients experience.

All About Acne Board member and practising Brisbane-based dermatologist, Dr Lisa Byrom said that any new treatments that may assist with adolescent acne are most welcome. She encourages that you make it a priority to talk to your dermatologist about whether it is the right treatment approach for you.
