In recognition of World Antibiotic Awareness Week (14-20 November), the Australasian College of Dermatologists has re-issued its advice to avoid using antibiotics alone for the treatment of acne.

People requiring treatment for severe acne can expect their doctors to ask about their mental health before and during any treatment with the acne medication isotretinoin (e.g. Oratane, Roaccutane).

People with moderate to severe acne now have access to another treatment option with a light-based therapy although cost is a major consideration.

Dairy and its potential link to acne continues to be debated and now a recent US study has found it’s the type of milk teens drink that may affect their acne.

Australian women being treated with isotretinoin for acne are urged to double up on contraception methods to avoid any risk of pregnancy.
